Today I'm helping run an ISS, and while they were PTing I decided to read to them. I started out with a daily devotional that talked about what happens hen we try to do Gods job. It gave the illustration of the wind. I also read a book about prayer. So over all a profitable time. if not for them, then for me.
There was a guy who hated the easterly wind. and so he asked God to give him power over it. So God gave him the power to control the wind. The man took the wind high up into the mountains and put it into a cave where he locked it up. Then he thought to himself, "What shall I put in its place?" He then thought about how worm and comforting the southerly wind was. But, when he went to unlock the southern wind the door burned his hand. Then God appeared. The man then realizing that he was incapable of changing what God had already put into place, gladly handed god the keys. In doing so the man saw that God also had the keys to every part of his life, and was amazed. God, seeing the amazement on his face said, " do you not know, dear child, that my kingdom rules over all?" "If you rule over all," the man questioned, "is it safe to complain about anything?" He then laid his hand on me to say, "My dear child, your only safety comes from loving, trusting, and praising Me through everything." I thought this was an amazing illustration how when we take matters into our own hand and try to play God, we epically fail.
In prayer a question often asked, is how do we pray powerfully. The answer is through scripture. The Bible lays it out very plainly the Word of god is more powerful then anything else on earth. Also if we look at the prayers of the people in the Bible we can learn how they prayed and the powerful outcome of those prayers. Also praying Through the scriptures can give us the power of claiming the promises God has given us in his Word.
