Today is the start of school. Which is a good thing I guess, because it offers me more time to work on the Challenge. But it also gives me more time to put it off. Procrastination. So far I've been able to complete everything for today, without procrastinating. It's a big step for me.
After writing yesterdays post I went back and reread Titus chapter 1, and it also speaks to what is required of a man. Yesterday I mainly wrote about timing today I am going to write more about what is actually required, or expected of a man.
Titus chapter 1. Starting in verse 5 Paul begins to lay down the guidelines for elders. In my opinion every man should be an elder. In the church an elders job is to lead, teach, care for, and set the standard for the rest of the church. You don't have to be an elder in the church in order to be an elder. If you are married, then its your job to be the elder of your family. If you have people following your example at all, man or woman, you are to be an elder. Someone who is engraved with word of God to the point where they can give a, biblical, sound doctrinal answer for any question that is asked of them.
Verses 6-9 are a description of the requirements of an elder. Above reproach, husband of one wife, children who are Christians and who respect their elders, not arrogant, not quick tempered, not violent, not greedy, But he is to be hospitable, a lover of good, self-controlled, upright, holy, and disciplined. He also must hold firm to the Word of God, teach others the doctrines of the Bible, and be able to rebuke those who contradict it. This is the basic standards for which all men should live by.
Now I'm going to tell you about a guy I met the day I left for break. He was older, I'd say in his 50s and he showed up on a crotch-rocket motorcycle. With matching clothes and everything. What a first impression. But anyways, he couldn't believe I worked here. He thought I was about 16 and to still be in school. We walked around and talked for about 15 20 minuets about how the school has changed and where and how things used to be. When we were all done reminiscing, he said something that really goes to say why I work here instead of somewhere else. He said, "this place changed me. Now, don't get me wrong, I hated this place, but it turned me around! If I hadn't gone here I would probably be in Jail. Or worse." That is why I work here! There may be only one person that I help. But if there's one person, then It's all worth it!
