It has almost be a week now since getting to Chamberlain and boy I didn't know what I was getting into. People have been asking me if it is what I expected, the answer is no. It's not anything like I was expecting. I didn't really know what to expect but it wasn't this.
The first day upon arrival we left to go to ALERT. There we observed the basic training to get a getter understanding of what a military structure is like. We got there on Thursday, and on Friday we went on a short hike and for some this was very challenging. Well on this hike about the time we took our first break I noticed my phone was missing. Assuming I had dropped it somewhere on the side of the road I decided to wait and look for it later. So three hours later as we were finishing our hike I took off my pack and ran back to the starting point and ran the whole first leg of the hike looking for it. But I didn't find it. So I went back to the camp site where everyone was getting ready to start a navigation exercise. But Capt. Pendergast said that if I want to stay behind he would get the four wheeler and we could go look again. I stayed and looked but we checked twice but didn't find it. Then after everyone had returned to the camp site Jonathan Holliday asked me if I wanted him to try calling it I said to go ahead. But again no answer. Then he sent a text saying if found please call, Reward. And within 10 seconds he got a call. It was a guy saying he had found it early that morning. We were camping about 2 min away from the road so we arranged to meet him by the road. And sure enough he had found it. I offered the reward but he refused. Then as we were interning into the camp site the battery died! Talk about timing.. God is good all the time. So that was a tremendous aw inspiring experience.
On Saturday we observed the basic training Saturday inspection. This was a privilege. We were the first ever outside group to observe it. That night we played ultimate frisbee with the ALERT cadre.
Sunday we went to the basic training service.
Monday was the start of our actual training. This whole day was spent going over the job description, and discussing our goals for the school year.
Tuesday we had a flight medic come in and give us a class on Heat Emergencies, Designer Drugs, and Behavioral Emergencies. In case you don't know what designer drugs are, they are synthetic drugs or drugs that you can make from house hold supplies.
Wednesday we had a Medical class called Assisted Self-Administered Medications. It's a certificate so we can give students their medications. Then that evening we went to the First Presbyterian Church in Port Gibson to get to know the people their and to eat a dinner with them. The people are mostly older and a lot of fun. The TAC officers sang At Calvary, ALERT style!
Now it's Thursday. Today we will be going over everything one last time and preparing everything for the arrival of the cadets on Monday. There is a lot to do in a Very short amount of time!
This is a pic of the campus from the front of my dorm.
I have the smallest apartment, but I do have a full kitchen. Some of the bigger apartments don't have a kitchen. It's not bad. I have wood flooring throughout the whole apartment.
I am very excited to what God is going to do this year, and the position I will be holding! Yes I am a little nervous.
That sums it up for now.. I'm working on two other posts. I just don't know when I will be able to finish them.
