Tithing
This is something I am working through at this very moment. This past Sunday Bro. Jerry did a sermon on tithing, and I have had many discussions on the old testament law, well I had assumend that tithing fell under the law that was fulfilled with the resurrection. However Jerry preached that it wasn't, and that we will still be cursed if we don't tithe. I can remember what the passage that he used. My question, is what law does tithing fall under? I am going to talk to Bro. Jerry about it, but he is out of state right now. So what you have to say?

A friend of mine wrote an essay and something he said really helped me understand the laws of the old testament better. He said:
ReplyDeleteThe Old and New Testaments are very different, but in actuality, they are a continuation of the same thought. The rules and regulations in the OT were mainly for the specific nation of Israel--divided into three basic portions: the Civil, Ceremonial, and Moral Law. As we are not the ancient nation of Israel, the Civil Law doesn't apply to us. As the Old Covenant has been fulfilled in Jesus' death, the Ceremonial Law doesn't apply either. However, we are still to obey the Moral Law...like the Ten Commandments. The point is, many of the rules in the Old Testament weren't inherently moral principles...they were simply laws for the nation of Israel at the time.
