I have learned so much about Christianity since coming to Springfield. For starters, at home in AR I could only see one side of the coin. Now that I'm here in a city I can see the other side.
The AR side. This side primarily consists of the study, and knowledge of Christianity. It is a small town, so it is easy to only associate with the people who think like you do. For me, that is the study geeks. The people who want to learn as much as possible about Christianity. It is also easy to see our faults and, therefore, focus only on one area of Christianity. Basically you never move on. You stay in the past. So to speak. Which, I am learning, is not scriptural. I believe it is directly against Ecc. But I haven't done the study yet..
The City side. This side is the application side. Applying all the things you know in Christianity. Which, I am finding out is completely different from the other side. For one, There is a lot, LOT, less learning.. In fact, it's almost rare. The majority of the time is spent trying to figure out how to apply all the things you know to be true.. And you end up compromising a lot. You are surrounded by those who live out there beliefs. The difference between a City doing that, and a small town, is in the small town, everybody believes the same things. Here there are as many different beliefs as there are grains of sand on a beach. Much of your time is spent figuring out if a persons belief is scriptural. The scary part, is that a lot of the things you were taught to be wrong, isn't directly against the Bible. They are just looked down upon in the "small town study" atmosphere.
My conclusion, which it is still growing and changing, I that there needs to be a balance of application and studying. Every time you hang out with friends you learn something new that you have to check against the Bible, because you are learning that everything you were taught to be bad isn't necessarily wrong. And being able to tell/discover the difference, is the hard part.
These are some of the things I have observed. I pray they will help you out.
