UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

In this post I am only going to mention the questions that I have been bombarded with, and have not been able to give an answer that will suffice myself, or the people that asked them. Cussing. Is it fine to cuss? If so, why? Is it wrong? If so, why? Salvation. Does it happen at the prayer, or at the point of change? Music. Is music with a back beat wrong? If so, why? Or is it fine? If so, why? That's all I am going to ask at one time. The rest will come later. So what are your thoughts?

  2. It does say in the bible not to swear, and list all the things you shouldn't swear by (it covers everything) Interpret "swear" how you will. Plus, "cursing" is usually used to degrade someone or something. Even when not used in that context, it creates an image of you that is not a representation I would want to have.

I don't think music with a back beat is wrong. I do believe that certain music was written to elicit certain emotions. Music that promotes anger, violence, and sexual innuendo that is not pure I believe to be wrong. Often, said music has lyrics, but there are times when truly talented people can convey any sort of feeling through the music itself. Mostly, this is not a problem, but sometimes I think it promotes thinking patterns that are unhealthy.

I believe Salvation happens when you come to a true understanding of who Jesus is, and what He did for you, AND seek to follow after Him in your life. This does not mean you will be perfect, it doesn't mean you have to life by "so and so's" pharisee style standards. It just means you recognize Jesus as the son of God, the one and only way of life, and seek to build a relationship with Him as the lord of your life.

  3. There is a difference between cussing, swearing, and cursing. Cussing is using vulgar (common) words which is not a sin issue but is very unbecoming of a Christian and will ruin your witness to the world. Swearing is forbidden in the commandments. Get a Treasury of Scripture Knowledge ( The best Bible study tool) and read all of the verses that go with that commandment and you will understand swearing. Cursing ones parents was punishable by stoning. Damning someone to hell is very serious and not our place. again the Treasury of Scripture Knowledge can give you more insight into cursing. Music is part of God's creation and follows his order and laws of science and mathematics. Any music which would not follow his order would be wrong because the purpose of it is chaos and ugliness, it is against the beauty and orderliness of God. Also music can be very sensual which feeds the flesh. If it feeds your flesh it is wrong.

  4. Ok so what I am getting, is cussing isn't wrong, it's just looked down upon. And for music, so long as it doesnt "feed" the flesh it's ok. Which would mean that music with a back beat is fine.

Thank you all for the comments. And I encourage all who read this to do the same. I am just searching for knowledge.

  5. I think that cussing might not be a sin but mostly it happens when your emotions are not godly and it is seen as a un-Christian thing.
I think any music is fine so long as it not making you focus on how you are feeling with it but it turns your mind to God. I think for myself that the older hymns are better than "new age" because with the hymn you can't help but read the words and most have a deep meaning in them and the music is not loud. The other seems to me to be too much turned to a " feel good" and " raise hands" type of thing. Church is not a place to go to feel good ( but don't get me wrong God doesn't want a lot of sour faced, no fun at all Christains) but to learn more and, yes, to be convicted. Just so you know though I'm not in anyway downing the newer music, just saying it doesn't do me any good.
As for salvation I believe it starts with the heart change. Anyone can say a prayer when the emotions are right and still be lost, but when they truely see God and know Jesus died for them and desire to live only for Him then they are saved.

  6. Regarding speech:
Ephesians 4:29-31 speaks to this very clearly: "Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:"
Colossians 3:8... "But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth."
Verses 9-10 say we are to put off the old man with his deeds "and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:"
Does what comes out of your mouth conform to the these scriptures? Have you put on the new man or or does your speech reflect the life of the old man? Do you reflect the life of the one who created you? What does the "world" hear coming from the mouth that confesses Christ as their Savior?
