Sunday School 4

This week we touched on two areas, the Biblical point of marriage, and the cultural influence on young people.

So what is the Biblical point of marriage? In fact what is the worldly point of marriage? Do we really know what either one is? Can we put it into words? Or have we just gone on for century's without ever seriously considering these questions? I am here to search out the answers, and share them with you. First we have the biblical view of what marriage is all about. Now I've never been married and I am still learning, but I will share with you what I have learned so far. In order to form a true picture of marriage we must do the same thing as we did last week with finding the truth of word definitions. We must go back to the original. In this case it means starting with Adam and Eave.
Man was created with a longing, a desire that needed to be filled. God acknowledges this in Genesis 2: 18 when He says "it is not good for man to be alone." In the next verse God says he is going to make a "help meet" for him. So God creates every living beast, bird, and fish. God then makes them pass in front of Adam and tells him to name them. But at the end Adam still had the same emptiness. We see this in the end of verse 20 where it says"but for Adam there was not found a help meet." The next verse says that God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he took a rib from him and made woman. The translation of the word rib here is the word cell. He took a cell out of Adam and made woman. Now what does a cell contain? It contains DNA. So in other words he made a clone of Adam. In fact part of the translation for the words "help meet" is same as or equal to in every way. The Hebrew word for man is Ish and for woman it is Isha. After God had created woman he presented her to Adam, and his response was something to the effect of WOW! Or as bro Jerry likes to put it, THIS IS IT! How does this all tie into marriage? Better yet how does this tie into the biblical point of marriage? How about this, what were they clothed in? What were they wearing? The answer is nothing. But when they looked at each other what did they see? They didn't see the nakedness. No, they saw god. Genesis 1:27 says "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them". Now you may some how conclude from this verse that only man was created in the image of God. But if we look in Genesis 5:2 it says that in the day when THEY were created, he called THEIR name Adam. So we can conclude that male and female were created together in the image of God. But there is one more verse we need to look at before we finish this part. Genesis 2:24 says "Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother..." So the point of biblical marriage? Male and female are not complete in the image of God unless one, thus, marriage.

Well that is a good amount of writing and I have only gone over one of the areas we discussed, so I will post this one with a promise to continue it at a later date. Goodnight!
